Impact Beyond Surgery: From the Field
On Friday, April 24, 2026, our International Surgical Program at Hospital Nacional Daniel Alcides Carrión in Lima, Peru, concluded — marking the end of an extraordinary week of care, collaboration and hope. The program reached a total of 72 children and adults served, each representing a life transformed by access to safe, timely surgical care.
Program Snapshot
Program: International Surgical Program #29
Location: Hospital Nacional Daniel Alcides Carrión, Lima, Peru
Date: April 2026
Surgeries Performed: 72
Throughout the week, patients and families arrived with stories shaped by long periods of waiting, determination and resilience. For many, this program represented not only a long‑awaited medical intervention but also renewed possibility — an opportunity to move forward with confidence and improved quality of life.
Behind every surgery was a shared commitment between patients, families and volunteers. The strength and trust of those who placed their care in the hands of the team, combined with the dedication of medical and non‑medical volunteers, made it possible to navigate challenges and continue showing up each day with purpose and compassion.
This surgical program reflected what is possible when skill, service and partnership come together. While the procedures themselves marked critical milestones, the broader impact extended far beyond the operating room — restoring confidence, easing daily challenges and opening new paths for individuals and families alike.
The work continues. The team will reunite in June for a new surgical program in Arequipa, where care will be extended to 34 patients from Peru’s southern region. Each program builds on the last, strengthening local partnerships and expanding access to care while reaffirming a long‑term commitment to patients and communities across the country.
Programs like this remind us that surgery is not an endpoint — it is a catalyst. Through continued presence, collaboration and care, we help transform lives and support brighter futures.
